Schreuder's reaction to Jasper Cillessen's departure from the NEC
NEC's veteran goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has revealed that he will no longer be with the club. However, coach Dick Schreuder responded to this and stated that the club's decision was correct and that Cillessen has served the club a lot. It is said that this separation arose due to non-agreement on contractual matters.
Dutch club NEC have officially announced that goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen is no longer part of the team. Team coach Dick Schreuder responded, "It's great to have veterans like this on the team, but it's become a little difficult to keep them."
While NEC only offered Cillessen a one-year contract, he asked for a two-year contract. The club has focused on the fact that Cillessen is 37 years old and currently confined to the bench. "He has served the team well. However, he has had a different priority than the main players like Linsen and Chery in the past. We gave him a one-year contract based on his situation. He did what he set his mind to," explained Schreuder.
Cillessen, who has produced impressive performances at the goalpost for NEC in the past, also announced his decision via social media. Schreuder was clear about this decision taken on behalf of the club and said, "We gave an experienced goalkeeper an opportunity that has not been exceeded before. We did it as it should be done on behalf of the club."
