Lega B: Top-11 surprises and notable upsets chosen by fans
Lega B announced the season's top-11, selected by fan votes. Surprisingly, Monza did not finish as Palermo finished fourth; Even though Carraraese did not qualify for the play-offs, one player was selected. Things like the loss of Frosinone star Fares Ghedzemis and the sale of Issa Doumbia from Venezia (20 million euros) are becoming bullets.
Lega B officials have released the top-11 of the season chosen by the fans on their official channels. The formation is named as 4-3-3 as per the press release, but there are some surprises in the selection made by the fans.
Main point of interest: Palermo had four players in that selection — which is amusing, as Palermo lost in the play-offs semi-finals. Again, not one from Monza finished in the top-11, which invites further discussion: Monza's third promotion of the season did not appear prestigious in the preferences vote.
Another highlight: Despite the fact that the Carraraese side didn't even qualify for the play-offs, their defender Simone Zanone made it to the top-11. It was a surprising decision among the fans' choices.
Famous goalscorer Frosinone star Phares Ghedjemis is notably absent from the top-11 — his replacement by youngster Mattia Liberali has sparked public debate. Equally, Issa Doumbia, a recent signing from Venezia, is also missing; For example, it is worth noting that he was sold to Portuguese club Sporting CP for around 20 million Euros.
The final 11 as chosen by Lega B fans was split as follows (4-3-3):
- Goalkeeper: Palmisani (Frosinone)
- Defense: Zanone (Carrarese), Bani (Palermo), Svoboda (Venezia), Augello (Palermo)
- Midfield: Palumbo (Palermo), Petrichione (Catanzaro), Calo (Frosinone)
- Front trio: Liberali (Catanzaro), Poznanpaolo (Palermo), Yeboa (Venezia)
As soon as this pick was released, fans and analysts reacted strongly on social media and in the press. While some applaud Palermo's increased representation, others question the lack of representation for a promoted team like Monza.
Lega B owners and the football community will now continue to debate whether this top-11 is meant to be a reference to bids or births. Recent opinions on fan voting patterns, media coverage and upcoming marketing decisions by clubs make this debate even more poignant.
