Genoa, Lecce new claim: four out of five certainties — Euro 2032 status
The process of selecting the stadiums for Euro 2032, which Italy will co-host with Turkey, is proceeding apace. Torino, Roma, Milan are considered mainly accurate; A few other cities (Napoli, Florence, Palermo) will compete in the second stage. FIGC plans to meet the July 31 dossier deadline.
In the latest developments on the hosting of Euro 2032, Lecce and Genoa are also official contenders. At the editorial level, FIGC has to prepare a complete dossier by July 31; It was also decided that five Italian stadiums would be referred to UEFA's executive committee by October, but there is also a view that in reality one of them will finalize more stadiums and hand the choice to Nyon.
What certainties there are: Torino, Roma and, generally speaking, Milan — these three cities are taken as chiefly certainties. Specifically, the Allianz Stadium (which belongs to Torino) is currently set to host Euro fixtures; Roma's Olimpico is also physically fit. On the part of Milan, Inter and Milan hope that the new stadiums will be completed before time passes, but it may be affected if the hearing inquiries (inchieste / management supervision) are questionable.
With four cities vying for two of the five spots, there is competition between four cities for the other two spots: Rome, Napoli, Florence and Palermo. The Roma project in Pietramalata (Pietralata) is also a candidate for another secondary project near Roma. This is not surprising: keeping Istanbul with three stadiums is also a logistically better option for UEFA, especially given the possibility of hosting the Final Four in Turkey.
The Franchi Stadium in Florence is thought to be the closest to the idea. Barbera in Palermo is also receiving special attention due to the financial strength of the City Football Group. Speaking of Napoli, Napoli would be a natural candidate if Diego Armando Maradona could extend and completely rebuild the Stadia (Julio).
As for the other fields: Via del Mare (Lech), Marassi (Genoa), Arecchi (Salerno) and the future Gigi Riva (Cagliari) also officially join the candidacy. But these stadiums are considered too small in terms of design or capacity to host major Euro matches — usually unable to host big matches due to capacity, unless there are huge surprises up until then. Cities such as Bari, Verona and Bologna have struggled to deliver adequate, five-star stadiums on time.
One more note: consideration has also been made on Bergamo and Udine (Udine) — with some modifications the Udine stadium thing could be in line with the requirement if the right deal is made, but in fact they have not previously been registered as official candidates.
All in all: Italy's verification process for Euro 2032 has some of the main stadiums already identified, while other cities have staked their claim, so the final choice is likely to be short-lived. The FIGC's deadlines and UEFA executive decisions will provide clarity in the coming months.
