Once again it held its own damnedly: winning twice in a row in the anti-Momu battle for value. This time Marco Palestra will be joining Chelsea, not Inter. With the London club taking the player ahead of Marotta and Ausilio, the Champions' club hopes have changed.
Chelsea's trick against Inter last time out was shocking: despite a few days of progress, Inter seemed to have bargained and bought a player, but in the end they failed. It's another flashpoint from last year — when Adhemola Luqman was the star of the story and he was sold from Adilon (Dea) to Atletico Madrid in January. Even if Gantoli informed Inter, Inter would have taken a risk by waiting — another club would step in and eventually Inter would have a 'cigarette butt' in their hands.
Even then, the incident was not just a lesson for Inter — a message for every Italian club. Resisting the financial excesses of the big European teams requires planning ahead, making quick decisions if there is a specific target, and meeting the other party's requests on time if necessary.
Plus: Another Italian player joining the Premier League is good news. Marco Palestra will join many more Italian players in the Premier so far — traditional names such as Tonali, Calafiori, Donnaramma, Caiogue, Yuvadozzi, Leoni, Vicario, Namonto (Gnanto), Savona, Kiesha, Okoli and Bove are already in the Premier. Perhaps there are some lesser known ones, but the idea is that good players from Serie A playing at the foreign level will contribute to our national group.
A note to look forward to in Battle of Wars: Competing against — and playing against — the best players can help players grow. Serie A is now ultimately not among the world's top-tier competitions, but with the right opportunities paying off, it may be considered sacrilegious to go abroad.
