World Cup 2026: Find out how the third-placed teams can qualify for the knockouts
The special attraction of FIFA World Cup 2026 is that some of the third placed teams in the group stage will also qualify for the knockout stage. Special tie breaker rules such as points, goal difference, goals conceded and fair play score apply.
FIFA World Cup 2026 will have a new format for the group stage. Compared to last World Cup — now total 48 teams are divided into 12 groups. Not only the top 2 teams from each group, but also the 8 best third-placed teams qualify for the Round of 32. This is the main change.

Group B: Bosnia & Herzegovina - 1 point, minus 3 goal difference. A fight for survival against Qatar. A win over Qatar, who lost 6-0 to Canada, will boost Bosnia's knockout hopes.
This time, after the final matches on Monday, there will be full clarity on the third position. Ultimately, even if teams are not winning — goal difference, discipline should come first. Any small mistake closes the chances of a knockout. So, it's crucial to focus on goal difference — while picking fewer yellow and red cards.
